Boost Your Morning Routine with Hemp-Derived CBD and Coffee

Your morning routine sets the tone for the day. For many, mornings can be hectic, rushed, and downright stressful. Experiencing significant stress in the morning can leave you feeling burnt out even before the day has begun, leading to poor performance, reduced focus, and frustrating fatigue. Luckily, CBD may just be the remedy to boost your morning routine and get you out of that daily funk.

What Is Stress?

Overwhelmingly, studies show that morning stress depletes energy early on and leads to reduced working memory. While stress is a normal physiological reaction to certain stimuli, chronic stress, especially at the start of the day, can deteriorate your health over time and even generate additional chronic conditions. The mind and body become worn down when relentless stress leaves little room for periods of relaxation.

When you encounter a stressor, your body reacts by triggering the hypothalamus in the brain to produce epinephrine, also known as adrenaline. This hormonal release raises your pulse rate and blood pressure, and an increase in glucose creates a surging burst of energy throughout the body. If the brain continues to perceive there to be an imminent threat, the body additionally produces the hormone cortisol.

Occasional stress is healthy and normal: it activates the natural fight-or-flight response and helps the mind and body react quickly and intelligently to danger. Chronic, ongoing stress, however, is unnecessarily dangerous. Relentless epinephrine surges damage arteries and blood vessels, raising your risk of heart attack or stroke. In addition, continually elevated cortisol levels lead to fat tissue buildup and weight gain, which also contribute to chronic coronary conditions.

How Can CBD Help?

Luckily, the chronic stress cycle can be broken with the use of cannabidiol, or CBD. The hemp-derived chemical compound has been gaining traction in recent years due to its ability to mitigate stress and reduce anxiety, among other health benefits. Many find CBD especially helpful in the morning, when stress is often heightened and the urge to slip back into a warm, cozy bed is all too tempting.

CBD works by interacting with the endocannabinoid receptors in the brain that regulate fear and anxiety-producing hormones. It also triggers receptors that produce serotonin and dopamine, two primary mood boosting hormones. A growing number of studies conclude that, due to these interactions, CBD can be an effective treatment for chronic mental conditions like panic disorder, (PD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

A morning dose of CBD may prove beneficial to your daily routine. It is non-psychoactive and helps produce homeostasis, or overall balance, throughout the body. Although many perceive CBD to induce drowsiness (it is a great treatment for sleep disorders, after all), this is not the case when dosed properly. In fact, we love to add a dose to our morning coffee to ready us for the day ahead and give us a little extra morning boost!

There are many ways to ingest CBD. Tinctures are one of the most versatile: you can rub them directly into your skin for a topical approach, dose directly into your mouth using a dropper, or add them to your food or drink. Our favorite is this Full Spectrum Tincture from Bee’s Knees Wellness. Note that, as a full-spectrum hemp-derived CBD product, it does contain 0.3% THC. Although this small amount of the compound should produce no discernable psychoactive effects, many prefer to avoid the cannabinoid altogether. Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of coffee or tea
  • 1 dropper full of Bee’s Knees Wellness Tincture
  • ½ teaspoon of sugar, honey, or other sweetener

Optional:

  • ½ cup of milk or creamer
  • 1 tablespoon of butter, ghee, or MCT oil

Instructions:

  • Brew a strong cup of your favorite morning coffee or tea.
  • Add the sweetener of your choice to a mug. Mix in your tincture alongside an optional healthy fat.
  • Pour your hot drink into the mug and stir until all ingredients are well-combined.
